The Village of Blockley in the Cotswolds
The village of Blockley is a peaceful retreat from the main tourist routes. It is tucked away in a valley surrounded by woodland and open farmland offering many good walks. But the centre of the old village also has some interesting historic buildings to admire, from the Church and former silk mills to scores of picturesque cottages and former shops and pubs.
The brand new Village Shop & Café and Community Hub, which was opened in November 2014, is of special interest. It was built with the help of the Big Lottery Fund, the Social Investment Business and fund raising by the community and is owned by a cooperative of 650+ villagers. The opening marked the culmination of an 8-year battle to keep these essential retail and social amenities for the village in perpetuity.
This friendly, inviting village hub, which also offers a diary of regular community events, is the perfect place to meet, work and socialise, so there’s every reason to support this great initiative.
