The Lion Inn started life as a coaching inn in the 15th Century. Over the years it has gone through many changes and played an important role in the village and surrounding areas; providing food, drink and accommodation for both people and horses, in a variety of guises.
Following a major renovation of the building and grounds The Lion Inn at Winchcombe has been given a new lease of life transforming it into a place that we would like to visit. Today, The Lion has a welcoming yet stylish interior with bar, snug, restaurant, garden (ideal for alfresco dining), 8 double en-suite bedrooms including a suite with its own entrance. All have extremely comfortable beds, their own individual character and ambiance.
Dining at The Lion Inn is a relaxed affair with deliciously tempting food, an imaginative wine list and friendly staff. Our chef’s source seasonal ingredients from the best suppliers in the area and our menus are based on what is fresh and available and change frequently. It’s this dedication to great British ingredients that has earned us an AA Rosette. Our constantly changing menu can also be enjoyed al-fresco in our large, sunny well-stocked garden.
Focusing on the simpler things in life, the eight bedrooms offer a place of complete tranquillity. They are big, comfy and television-free, so you can easily disconnect and unwind. Nature plays a big role here with natural fabrics, fresh flowers and handmade Bramley toiletries packed with rich and rejuvenating natural ingredients included in every room. Dogs are very welcome in all bedrooms and our bar & snug too.
The Clubroom is a light and airy room full of individual character and charm. Seating up to 20 guests at one table, this room is ideal for dinners, weddings, and parties. Private dining doesn’t need to be just for celebrations, it is a perfect excuse for a group of friends to get together, a family lunch or even a pre-wedding meal or breakfast. Meetings in The Clubroom offer a discrete, private and relaxed feel, giving you the choice and flexibility to suit all of your business needs. The room offers broadband access a complimentary screen and can accommodate a maximum of 20 delegates in a number of styles.
The Lion Inn is situated in the heart of historic Winchcombe which has an abundance of beautiful Cotswold buildings, independent shops, popular restaurants and cafes and a choice of lively pubs. The romantic Sudeley Castle, resting place of Queen Katherine Parr, is within walking distance and the world famous Cheltenham Racecourse is a few miles away. The Lion Inn is an ideal base from which to explore some of the most beautiful locations in the Cotswolds. We have stunning countryside, beautiful walks and cycle routes, open gardens, festivals, country fetes, races, vintage car hill climbs, local cider, perry and beers, pick your own fruit, and fields of Cotswold lavender.
In short, the Lion is a place you can walk into on your own or come with friends and family for coffee, bar snacks, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, stay the night or the week and know that you will receive a warm welcome and be well looked after.
