Open-air cinema comes to HYLL
There are summer evenings, and then there are summer evenings spent watching a film under the open sky with the Cotswolds stretching out around you.
On Saturday 29 August, Hyll is turning its beautiful grounds into an open-air cinema for a special screening of MadFabulous, and there’s a lovely connection between the film and the hotel itself.
∙ A FILM WITH A HYLL CONNECTION ∙
MadFabulous was written by Hyll co-owner Lisa Baker, making this much more than simply an outdoor screening. The evening begins at 6pm, when Lisa will be joined by the film’s director Celyn Jones and producer Paul Baker for a live conversation about how MadFabulous made its journey from the very first idea to the finished film.
It’s a chance to hear some of the stories behind the production before settling in to watch it in rather special surroundings. The film itself begins at 7pm, with the evening expected to finish at approximately 9.30pm.

∙ FILM, BUT WITHOUT THE DISTRACTIONS ∙
We rather love Hyll’s thinking behind the evening. Modern life means we’re rarely doing just one thing. We watch television while scrolling through our phones, answer messages over dinner, and somehow even our downtime can end up feeling busy.
An outdoor cinema asks you to do something refreshingly simple: turn up, sit down, and watch. And when your cinema happens to be the grounds of Hyll, with views stretching across the Cotswolds, putting your phone away for a couple of hours suddenly doesn’t sound too difficult.
∙ SOMETHING GOOD TO EAT, TOO ∙
Of course, a Cotswold summer evening wouldn’t be complete without something delicious to eat and drink.
Food and drinks will be available to buy throughout the evening, with a menu including pulled Bryair Hill Farm lamb with tabbouleh and mint and coriander yoghurt (£16), buttermilk chicken with spiced aioli and red cabbage slaw (£14), and a vegetarian aubergine schnitzel with tabbouleh and mint and coriander yoghurt (£12). And because it simply isn’t cinema without it, there will also be popcorn and classic sweet shop treats for £5.
∙ MADFABULOUS AT HYLL ∙
The open-air screening takes place at Hyll Hotel on Saturday 29 August 2026, from 6pm until approximately 9.30pm. Tickets are priced from £11 to £16.75.
A film with a local connection, its writer, director, and producer sharing the stories behind it, good food, and one of the loveliest Cotswold backdrops you could ask for. Sounds like a pretty fabulous way to spend a Saturday night.
