In a world increasingly dominated by mass production and fast retail, Vigour and Skills offers a refreshing alternative. Based in the Cotswold town of Burford, this innovative online concept store connects conscious shoppers with talented independent makers from across the UK, celebrating craftsmanship, sustainability and the stories behind every handcrafted object.
Co-founded by Clément and Beatrice, Vigour and Skills began with a simple idea: to bring people closer to the objects they live with, and to the makers behind them. From their studio space near Burford, the team curates a selection of work from talented independent makers across the UK, while also hosting workshops and creative events. The pieces themselves are made in the makers’ own studios and workshops and Vigour and Skills shares the stories and process behind each item through photography and film.
Today, the platform features a curated collection of beautifully made pieces spanning ceramics, glassware, textiles, leather goods, jewellery and home accessories. Each item is carefully selected for its quality, craftsmanship and character, ensuring that every product carries a sense of individuality and authenticity. Many pieces are handmade or made to order, offering customers the opportunity to own something truly unique rather than mass-produced.
What truly sets Vigour and Skills apart is its emphasis on storytelling and transparency. Customers are invited to explore the creative journey behind each piece through detailed maker profiles, interviews and behind-the-scenes content. By documenting the production process and sharing the inspiration of each artisan, the platform allows buyers to understand not only what they are purchasing, but also who made it and how it came to life.
Sustainability is another cornerstone of the Vigour and Skills philosophy. The platform works with makers who prioritise environmentally responsible practices and durable materials, championing products designed to last rather than disposable trends. This focus on longevity and ethical sourcing encourages a slower, more thoughtful approach to shopping and consumption.

Beyond its online marketplace, Vigour and Skills also serves as a creative hub. The Burford studio hosts workshops, collaborations and events where customers can learn new skills, meet makers and experience traditional crafts first-hand. These gatherings foster a sense of community, bringing together artisans and enthusiasts who share a passion for handmade objects and creative processes.
