The power of breath and ice ∙ A transformative experience with Tribal Breath

∙ We walked in, but floated out ∙
In a world that often feels disconnected from nature, the team at Tribal Breath is on a mission to reconnect people with their innate capabilities. Led by certified instructors Phil and Kathy, Tribal Breath offers a unique and fun approach to wellness, and our recent experience with them at Cowley Manor was incredible.
The first part of our session, a Wim Hof workshop, was held in a tipi-style tent nestled in the peaceful grounds of the hotel. It began with an introduction to the power of the breath. Phil’s soothing voice, combined with carefully selected music, and the calming atmosphere of the space, guided us through a powerful breathing technique. This exercise was so profound that it felt like being transported to another plane entirely; we had never felt so completely relaxed. This deep conscious breathing served as the perfect preparation for what was to come.
We walked into our experience with Tribal Breath, but floated out with a profound sense of rejuvenation, aliveness, and peace.

Preparing for the cold exposure
Then, under the compassionate guidance of husband-and-wife-team Phil and Kathy—two truly spiritual and beautiful human beings—we made our way to the Victorian Cascades in the hotel grounds. Surrounded by ancient trees and the area’s wonderful natural beauty, we prepared for the cold exposure. The experience was made fantastic not just by the stunning setting, but by the reassuring and calming presence of our guides, who put us completely at ease and even joined us in the cool water.
A gasp… then clarity
As we stepped into the cold water of the Victorian Cascades, something shifted. The initial gasp was quickly replaced by a sense of clarity and focus. The cold was no longer a sensation to be endured but an invigorating force that sharpened our minds and awakened our bodies. This cold exposure, a core component of the Wim Hof Method, offers numerous benefits. It is known to help reduce inflammation, boost circulation, and strengthen the immune system. Psychologically, it builds mental resilience and a sense of calm, teaching the body and mind to respond to stress with control rather than panic. This blend of physical invigoration and mental fortitude is precisely what left us feeling so profoundly rejuvenated and alive.

Fire, ice, air, water, and earth
This transformative experience is central to the mission of Tribal Breath. As a certified Level 2 Wim Hof Method instructor, co-founder Phil focuses on promoting health and wellbeing through nature and the physical elements of fire, ice, air, water, and earth. His approach, which also includes Contrast Therapy, lymphatic, and vagal tone massage, is holistic and fun-loving. Co-founder Kathy, also a Certified Level 2 instructor, brings a calming “Yin to Phil’s Yang,” ensuring the experience is accessible and comfortable for all.
