• A Fantastic, Festive Afternoon Tea at Cotswold House

One of my favourite restaurants in the Cotswolds is beautiful Fig at Cotswold House Hotel in Chipping Campden. For décor, for level of service, for quality of the culinary offering, Fig gets top marks, always. So imagine our delight when we sat down to take in what we were sure would surely be a most delicious afternoon tea in this wonderful restaurant… this was one we had really looked forward to.

The Quintessential English Afternoon Tea Experience

And we were not disappointed, the exact opposite, in fact, because afternoon at Cotswold House Hotel is nothing short of The Quintessential English Afternoon Tea Experience. We were seated in the restaurant and offered a choice of coffee and tea. Well, one of the largest selection of teas, actually, and feeling a little adventurous on this fine afternoon in December, we went for the Assam Chocolate Tea, a subtle chocolate flavoured tea, perfect for this occasion.

    The very best service.. always!

Service at Cotswold House Hotel is always spot on. Always friendly and kind, nothing is ever too much trouble, and this afternoon in Fig was no different. We were made to feel very welcome and while waiting for our afternoon tea delights, we enjoyed the view of the lovely and buzzing square in the centre of Chipping Campden.

    Now to the main event

But when the main event, the delicious afternoon tea, was served to us, we forgot all about the beauty and buzz of this lovely Cotswold town, we simply had to focus all of our attention on the beauty that was the selection of afternoon tea classics served on the traditional 3-tiered cake stand. Just wonderful!

Our tea and cakes, sandwiches and scones were served in and on the beautiful ‘Drift’ range by internationally renowned Robert Welch from just a few houses down the street in Chipping Campden.

    The perfect Cotswold Afternoon Tea

We started with the delicious sandwiches, all freshly prepared from only the best ingredients. Delicious. Then the scones, warm and soft, not top crumbly, just right.. and served with jam and clotted cream. Then the top tier, the piece de resistance, the delightful, sweet selection of yummy, scrummy cakes. It was lovely, perfect… exactly what an afternoon tea in the Cotswolds should be like.

We can’t wait to come back again… and we can’t recommend Afternoon Tea at Cotswold House Hotel in Chipping Campden enough.
