• The Suffolk Arms: A Fantastic Dining Pub

On the Sunday before Christmas we went out for lunch at The Suffolk Arms in The Suffolks in Cheltenham. We’d been to this lesser known but completely fabulous part of Cheltenham before, so we were assuming this dining pub, which only opened a few months ago and is located right in the centre, was equally fabulous… we arrived and entered The Suffolk Arms and it was immediately apparent that we were right in this assumption.

    Beautiful Dining Pub

Up until early autumn of this year, The Suffolk Arms was a sports-bar. It was taken over by the current owners, who has since completely transformed the place into what is now a beautiful dining pub with a well-stocked bar and an amazing menu packed full of delicious dishes made with only the very best of local produce and ingredients.

A Real Hidden Gem in Cheltenham

The Suffolks is a hidden gem in Cheltenham. A 10-minute stroll from the better-known Montpellier area of this popular town in the Cotswolds, The Suffolks is just plain fabulous! Made up of a mix of fantastic independent shops, cafes, restaurants, all set within a beautiful residential community, giving the area it’s unique feel.

    Christmas Dinner was… Joy!

As we were also expecting, we were welcomed warmly at The Suffolk Arms and seated by one of the windows in the front. The atmosphere was lovely from the moment we entered and we were offered a drink and the menu. And what a menu! With just the right mix of pub classics, we chose the sirloin steak and the ham hock Christmas dinner, both unbelievably delicious choices. The steak was succulent, cooked to perfection and served with tenderstem broccoli, truffle and parmesan fries and an onion puree that we would have quite liked an entire glass off to take home. The Christmas dinner was a-ma-zing! Served with root veggies, roast potatoes, seasonal greens and gravy… oh, and with two bite-sized little pigs in blankets. Oh, joy!

    A Festive Pudding Experience

For pudding we had a delicious chocolate orange cheesecake and mince pie swirl… what’s a mince pie swirl, we hear you wonder. Well, we’re happy to tell you, it’s a pudding that can only really be described as “a festive experience”! A rum raisin ice cream on top of a scrummy, fluffy, sweet pastry swirl with a kind of mincemeat mix, but better than mincemeat, because it’s a bit gooey, a bit crunchy, a bit soft and just plain YUM! Basically, it’s better than a mince pie… and it’s the best festive pudding we have EVER had.

THE Place to Go in the Cotswolds

The Suffolk Arms in its new incarnation was born in the most difficult time. In 2020, right between the two lockdowns, the new owners of this completely transformed space had a dream of a great dining pub with great food, great service and a great atmosphere. They had a dream of turning a tired space into a beautiful restaurant right in the centre of one of the most wonderful hidden gems in Cheltenham in the Cotswolds. And they did just that. The Suffolk Arms is sure to become THE place to go in Cheltenham, the Cotswolds and far beyond, for amazing locally sourced food, beautifully prepared and turned into delicious culinary experiences.
