World Book Night at The Fleur de Lys ∙ An evening with local author Anna Byk

On 23 April, as World Book Night is celebrated across the UK, The Fleur de Lys in Lowsonford turns its focus to local literary talent with a special author evening featuring Solihull writer Anna Byk. Taking place during the national #ReadingHour, the event will see Anna discussing her debut novel It’s Never Really Over, a contemporary story centred on five interconnected women and partially set in Warwickshire, with evocative references to Stratford, Shakespeare and familiar regional landmarks.

A relaxed Q&A

Guests will hear about Anna’s writing and publishing journey, gain insight into the themes and inspiration behind the novel, and enjoy a relaxed Q&A session. The evening will also offer the opportunity to purchase signed copies, creating a personal connection between reader and author on a date closely aligned with UNESCO’s International Day of the Book, chosen to honour both Shakespeare and Cervantes.

Supporting local makers and independent voices

Hosted within the historic surroundings of The Fleur de Lys, the event reflects the inn’s growing programme of cultural gatherings alongside its renowned food and hospitality. Owner Emma Woodhouse notes that creating varied experiences beyond the traditional pub visit is central to the venue’s ethos, bringing together community, creativity and heritage while supporting local makers and independent voices.

The atmospheric and fabulous Fleur de Lys

Dating back to the 15th century and famed for its award-winning pies, The Fleur de Lys sits beside the Stratford Canal in the heart of the former Forest of Arden landscape. With its characterful interiors and spacious garden popular with walkers and canal visitors, it offers a uniquely atmospheric setting for an evening of stories, conversation and shared appreciation of books. The event runs from 7.30–8.30pm, and advance booking of a free ticket is recommended.
