Hands-on workshops and summer activities for kids at The Fleur de Lys in August

This summer, families looking for fun, creative ways to keep children entertained will find plenty to enjoy at The Fleur de Lys in Lowsonford, as the award-winning country pub launches a month-long programme of hands-on workshops and activities throughout August.

Designed in partnership with a collection of talented local businesses, the Summer Camp series combines creativity, nature, animals, and imagination, all set within the beautiful surroundings of one of Warwickshire’s most picturesque village pubs.

∙ A CREATIVE START TO THE HOLIDAYS ∙ The programme begins on Saturday 8 August with a pottery painting workshop hosted by Crazy Kiln Pottery. Young artists can choose from a selection of mugs, bowls, plates, or seasonal characters and animals to decorate before their masterpieces are professionally glazed and fired at Crazy Kiln’s Kenilworth studio, ready to collect from The Fleur around two weeks later. The session runs from 10.30am to 11.30am and costs £19 per child.

∙ DISCOVER THE BEAUTY OF NATURE ∙ On Saturday 15 August, Nature Makers invites children to explore the natural world through a colourful morning of crafting and creativity.

Using flowers, leaves, shells, stones, clay, and natural materials, children will create a collection of keepsakes to take home, including a flower-printed pencil case, painted nature treasures, a woodland-inspired crown and wand, a sunflower print, and a clay magnet featuring impressions gathered from nature. The workshop runs from 10.30am to 11.30am and costs £15 per child.

∙ MEET SOME WONDERFUL ANIMALS ∙ Animal lovers will be delighted on Saturday 22 August when Foxglove Meadows brings an interactive animal experience to The Fleur’s gardens.

Children will have the opportunity to meet, handle, and learn about a fascinating collection of small animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, a pygmy hedgehog, tortoises, and even a giant snail, making for a memorable and educational morning. The workshop takes place from 10.30am to 11.30am and costs £15 per child.

∙ A CALM AND IMAGINATIVE FINALE ∙ The Summer Camp concludes on Saturday 29 August with a gentle creative workshop led by The Creativity Mindset from Rugby.

Designed to encourage imagination, playfulness, and artistic confidence, the relaxed session offers children the chance to unwind before the return to school, using art as a way to explore creativity in a calm and welcoming environment. The session runs from 10.30am to 11.30am and costs £15 per child.

∙ MORE THAN JUST A WORKSHOP ∙ Every workshop includes squash and biscuits for the children, and with The Fleur’s spacious one-acre beer garden and two play areas, families are encouraged to make a day of it by staying for lunch afterwards. The pub’s award-winning pies have become something of a local institution, making them the perfect way to round off a morning of activities.

Owner Emma Woodhouse said: “We’re proving that pubs are fun for all the family this summer holiday! With two young children of our own, we understand that families are looking for activities to add to the diary and hopefully our range of Summer Camp workshops will light up the imaginations of even the most rambunctious kids.

“We’re so excited to have curated a selection of truly brilliant local practitioners to bring their magic to The Fleur de Lys for summer 2026. And of course, with an acre of beer garden and two playgrounds to enjoy, it just makes sense to stick around for lunch and one of our famous pies afterwards!”

∙ A BEAUTIFUL SETTING FOR FAMILY DAYS OUT ∙ Dating back to the 15th century, The Fleur de Lys is one of Warwickshire’s best-loved country pubs, nestled in the charming village of Lowsonford on the banks of the Stratford Canal. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and once part of the historic Forest of Arden, it has long been a favourite destination for walkers, canal visitors, and families looking to enjoy exceptional food in idyllic surroundings.

With a packed programme of engaging activities throughout August, it promises to be a wonderful destination for families looking to create lasting summer memories together. Bookings for all Summer Camp workshops can be made via the link below.
