Roots + Seeds Far Peak welcomes summer holiday play residency, The Wild Things
Roots + Seeds Far Peak near Northleach, is delighted to announce its second collaboration with children’s play specialists, The Wild Things. From mid-June 2026, the award-winning Cotswolds-based play and creativity company will launch a summer residency offering regular, unstructured play sessions for children aged 6 to 11.
∙ LET THE KIDS JUST BE ∙ Located within a beautiful old barn within the Far Peak estate and adjacent to Roots + Seeds café, The Wild Things philosophy is to allow children to be curious and use their imaginations with activities and pursuits in a non-competitive environment that lets children ‘just be’. Having fun and being silly, whilst encouraging ‘soft skills’ building where the stakes are low and making things and learning through trying something out and interacting with other children without too much adult direction, is key to The Wild Things ethos.

∙ EDUCATIONALLY INSPIRING ∙ The brainchild of Liz Macartney, a full-time educational consultant specialising in play work, youth work and education, and her co-director, Katie Collier, with a 20-year career in primary education, The Wild Things launched two years ago in response to Liz and Katie’s passion for promoting and engaging play (for both children and adults) and believe that the power of play is a catalyst for connection. Their vision for The Wild Things is to build something educationally inspiring particularly for children between the ages of 6 and 11, as this age group doesn’t have enough free time during the school day to just play and learn outside.
∙ FIND THINGS OUTSIDE ∙ In keeping with the Roots + Seeds sustainability ethos, The Wild Things uses natural, re-useable and recyclable materials, and encourage children to find things outside to play with. Offering something different at every session, there are no craft kits, no glitter and no clearing up time. Parents are encouraged to get involved with imaginative play and creative craft making projects with and alongside their children and all within a beautiful outdoor setting.
∙ WILD PLAY ALL SUMMER LONG ∙ The Wild Things at Far Peak play sessions will run from 10am to 4pm from mid-June until the end of the summer holidays and cost £6 per child. Just turn up and pay on the door. They can also accommodate younger children with ‘messy play’, dressing up and other activities suitable for their age.
Parents will have a chance to get involved with the day’s play activity or can also feel free to enjoy a coffee and fresh pastries at Roots + Seeds café knowing their children are within a safe and uncompetitive environment.

∙ ROOTS + SEEDS FAR PEAK ∙ Warmly welcoming everyone and their dogs. Roots + Seeds Far Peak is open daily for coffee and bakes, breakfast, brunch, lunch, and afternoon tea, with everything available to eat-in or Grab & Go. Head chef, Russell Brookman, oversees its short, but exciting and regularly changing brasserie-style menus of delicious modern British dishes with European influences and its ‘Specials Board’ of delicious ‘Field to Fork’ dishes dictated by the seasons and what’s best on the day.
