Today (the 12th of November) we had the great pleasure of being invited to beautiful Eynsham Hall in Witney, to test their Festive Afternoon Tea before everyone else. We knew we’d be in for a treat for sure, but just how big a treat we could have never guessed, because this afternoon tea was wonderful, beautiful, delicious and, of course, fabulously festive… among the very best we’ve had (and if you follow our experiences and travels through the Cotswolds, you’ll know that’s truly saying something).

 

 

Grand and Beautiful

Eynsham Hall is grand and beautiful, traditional mixed with quirky touches throughout. We were welcomed warmly and shown the restaurant, which is a warm and cosy room with an open fire. Service was great and we were made to feel very special from the moment we arrived.

 

Festive Afternoon Tea

And then it was time for the main event, the festive afternoon tea, which was served on a round 3-tier stand. The bottom of the tier was traditional sandwiches, each and every one prepared using the best ingredients and put together with great taste in mind. Turkey & cranberries, salmon & cucumber, egg & cress and cheese & chutney. Sometimes with afternoon teas the sandwiches are the least memorable layer, but not so here. Each and every mouthful was well balanced and incredibly tasty.

 

 

Among the very best we’ve had

Traditionally , the middle tier in an afternoon is the sweet section, a selection of mouthwatering cakes and sweet things, and so it was today as well. Except these sweet things were all created and decorated with the upcoming festive season in mind. A delicious egg nog cheese cake, a mince pie, a cupcake and a layered cake, all beautifully finished with lovely chocolate decorations. Perfect and exactly what we needed to get ourselves into the festive spirit.

Finally the top tier was scrummy scones with cranberries, clotted cream and jam. Absolutely perfect and completely delicious.
